The Australian Grand Prix has featured on the calendar every year since 1996, except for the cancelled events in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the season opener for 2026, the Australian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from March 6-8, with the first race set for March 8 at 4 am. This year, the event is expected to attract significant attention as it marks the beginning of a new broadcasting era for Formula 1 in the United States.

Breaking Development

In a significant shift for Formula 1 fans in the U.S., Apple TV has been announced as the exclusive broadcaster starting in 2026. Eddy Cue, a senior executive at Apple, stated, “This weekend marks the start of a new era for Formula 1 fans in the U.S.” This partnership will allow Apple TV subscribers to access F1 races streamed in 4K with Dolby Vision, enhancing the viewing experience for fans.

Subscribers will also benefit from additional features, including access to up to 30 additional live feeds during races. Notably, F1 TV Pro will be included at no extra cost with an Apple TV subscription, further integrating the platform into the Formula 1 viewing experience.

Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula 1, expressed enthusiasm about this new partnership, saying, “As we begin this exciting chapter for our sport with new teams, cars, engines, and drivers, it is the perfect time to welcome Apple as our broadcaster in the U.S.” This sentiment reflects the anticipation surrounding the upcoming season, which includes races in over a dozen countries.

Additionally, F1 races will also be available on other platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Tubi, broadening the accessibility of the sport to a wider audience. Apple Maps will provide digital guides for race tracks and local spots during the season, while live commentaries will be available on Apple Music during races, creating a comprehensive viewing experience.

What to Expect Next

As the Australian Grand Prix approaches, observers are keenly watching how the new broadcasting arrangements will impact fan engagement and viewership. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, noted, “We continue to monitor developments on the ground, and safety and well-being will guide our decisions across forthcoming events.” This statement underscores the importance of safety as the season kicks off.

With the Australian GP weather forecast predicting a dry, warm weekend with temperatures around 24°C, fans are expected to flock to the event, eager to witness the new era of Formula 1 broadcasting. The anticipation is palpable as teams like Cadillac, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari prepare for the challenges ahead in the 2026 season.

As the new regulations come into play, the style of racing may evolve, with energy deployment becoming critical. The best places to overtake are expected to be at Turns 3 and 11, but this may change with the new expected style of racing. Details remain unconfirmed.
