Demolition of Compound Wall at Praneeth Antilia

On March 9, 2026, a compound wall at Praneeth Antilia in Bachupally, Hyderabad, was demolished by the Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA) under police protection, following directives from the Telangana High Court. This action has reopened a crucial 40-foot road that had been blocked, significantly reducing the commuting distance for local residents from 8 kilometers to just 3 kilometers.

According to A.V. Ranganath, a representative from HYDRAA, “The action was taken following directions from the High Court.” He further emphasized that the removal of the wall would alleviate traffic congestion, benefiting thousands of residents in the surrounding areas. The demolition marks a pivotal moment for the community, which had enjoyed the benefits of a gated community for over 12 years, despite the layout being sanctioned as a group housing project rather than a gated community.

Community Response and Historical Context

The residents of Praneeth Antilia have expressed their discontent regarding the demolition, citing safety concerns and the abrupt change in their living conditions. Protests erupted as residents claimed that the removal of the wall compromised their security. A.V. Ranganath noted, “For the past 12 years, this layout residents were enjoying the benefits of a gated community, despite theirs being a normal group housing layout.” This sentiment reflects the community’s long-standing perception of their living environment.

Prior to this recent demolition, HYDRAA had also removed the same compound wall on June 24, 2025, indicating ongoing tensions between the residents and local authorities regarding the status and management of the area. The wall’s removal was prompted by complaints about road blockage, particularly after the opening of Exit 4 on the Outer Ring Road, which had led to increased traffic congestion in the vicinity.

Future Developments

With the wall now down, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has commenced laying a BT road along the cleared stretch, which is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Residents from multiple colonies are anticipated to benefit from the restored road access, which could enhance connectivity in the area.

As the situation unfolds, the community remains divided on the implications of the demolition. While some residents welcome the improved access, others are apprehensive about the potential loss of security that the compound wall had provided. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further actions that may be taken by local authorities or the residents in response to the ongoing changes in their community.
