Opening of the Post Preference Window

On March 9, 2026, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) opened the post preference window for the SSC CGL 2025 examination. This crucial phase allows candidates to select their preferred posts from the announced vacancies.

Timeline and Deadlines

The post preference window will remain active until March 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Candidates are urged to submit their preferences within this timeframe to ensure their inclusion in the final merit list.

Importance of Post Preferences

Submitting a post preference is essential for candidates, as those who fail to do so will not be considered for final selection. The final allotment of posts will be based on a merit-cum-preference system, highlighting the significance of this step in the selection process.

Vacancies Announced

A total of 15,130 vacancies have been announced for SSC CGL 2025. This includes 6,464 positions for the Unreserved Category, 3,834 for the OBC Category, 2,223 for Scheduled Castes (SC), 1,134 for Scheduled Tribes, and 1,475 for the Minority Category.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet specific physical and medical standards required for the posts they select. Additionally, candidates belonging to the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category must choose posts suitable for their disabilities.

Previous Examination Results

The Tier-I examination results were declared on December 18, 2025, followed by the Tier-II examination conducted from January 18 to January 20, 2026. These results have set the stage for the current post preference process.

Changing Preferences

Candidates have the flexibility to change their post preferences multiple times before the deadline. This allows them to reassess their choices based on their examination performance and personal circumstances.

Next Steps for Candidates

To submit their preferences, candidates can log in to the official SSC website at www.ssc.gov.in. It is crucial for candidates to act promptly to secure their desired positions.

Current State of the Process

As of now, candidates are actively engaging in the post preference submission process, with many taking advantage of the opportunity to adjust their preferences as needed. The upcoming days will be critical as the deadline approaches.

Significance of the Sequence of Events

This sequence of events is vital for candidates as it directly impacts their chances of securing a position in the government sector. The SSC CGL examination is a significant gateway for many aspiring government employees in India.
