Bomb Threat Leads to Evacuation at Parul University
“So far, nothing suspicious has been found on the campus, but sanitising the entire campus will take a couple of hours,” a police officer stated following a bomb threat incident at Parul University in Vadodara, India, on March 10, 2026.
The threat was communicated through an email that led to the immediate evacuation of the campus, affecting over 65,000 students enrolled in various courses. Internal examinations scheduled for that day were postponed as a precautionary measure.
Police teams from the Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, and Waghodia Police Station responded swiftly to the situation. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was deployed to conduct a thorough search of the premises.
Despite the urgency of the situation, no explosives were discovered during the search operation. The email that triggered the alarm was traced back to hacked Outlook and Hotmail accounts, indicating a broader issue of email security.
This incident was part of a series of bomb threat emails sent to various government departments across the state, prompting an investigation by Ahmedabad cybercrime teams to track the email trail.
The evacuation caused significant traffic congestion in the Waghodia area, as students and staff were directed to leave the campus promptly. The university has announced that postponed examinations will be rescheduled for the day after the current schedule concludes.
The bomb threat incident has raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of email security and identity verification measures at Parul University, highlighting potential vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to ensure the safety of the campus and its students. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments in the case.
