AIIMS Updates: Sudha Murty Advocates for AIIMS in Karnataka

AIIMS has been established in several states, but Karnataka has not yet received one. Sudha Murty, a prominent figure in the region, recently urged the Centre to set up an AIIMS in Karnataka’s Raichur, emphasizing the need for improved healthcare facilities in the state. She noted, “While the Centre had set up AIIMS in several states, Karnataka was yet to get one.”

In a related development, Anupriya Patel addressed the second convocation of AIIMS Mangalagiri, where the institution conferred degrees on 49 MBBS graduates, five MD/MS postgraduate students, and four Post-Doctoral Certificate Course students. Patel highlighted the government’s commitment to the medical sector, stating, “The Union government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving utmost priority to the medical sector.”

The MBBS course at AIIMS Mangalagiri began in 2018 with an initial intake of 50 students and has since grown to accommodate 748 students. The institution has also completed a remarkable 31 lakh outpatient department (OPD) consultations, showcasing its significant impact on healthcare delivery in the region.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a project aimed at facilitating signal-free travel from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS in South Delhi. The Barapullah Phase-III project will provide direct connectivity from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS, with a revised cost of Rs 1,635.03 crore. The target completion date for this project is set for June 30, 2026.

Additionally, a six-lane elevated road project on MB Road is estimated to cost Rs 1,471.14 crore. Gupta remarked, “These initiatives are important steps toward building a ‘Viksit Delhi’ and will also contribute to realising the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

She further added, “The current government is moving ahead with the project with clear financial planning and accountability.” These developments reflect ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure and accessibility in both Karnataka and Delhi.
