AIIMS Developments in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi
AIIMS has been established in several states, but Karnataka has not yet received one. Sudha Murty recently urged the Centre to set up an AIIMS in Raichur, Karnataka, emphasizing the need for improved healthcare facilities in the region.
In a related development, Anupriya Patel addressed the second convocation of AIIMS Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh, where degrees were conferred on 49 MBBS graduates, five MD/MS postgraduate students, and four Post-Doctoral Certificate Course students. The MBBS course at AIIMS Mangalagiri began in 2018 with an initial intake of 50 students and has since grown to accommodate 748 students.
AIIMS Mangalagiri has also achieved a significant milestone, completing 31 lakh outpatient department (OPD) consultations, which reflects its growing role in the healthcare landscape of the region.
In Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta announced a project aimed at facilitating signal-free travel from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS in South Delhi. This initiative is part of the Barapullah Phase-III project, which will provide direct connectivity to the hospital.
The revised cost for the Barapullah Phase-III project is Rs 1,635.03 crore, with a target completion date set for June 30, 2026. Additionally, a six-lane elevated road project on MB Road is estimated to cost Rs 1,471.14 crore.
Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of these initiatives, stating, “These initiatives are important steps toward building a ‘Viksit Delhi’ and will also contribute to realising the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
She further noted that the current government is moving ahead with the project with clear financial planning and accountability. This reflects a commitment to enhancing infrastructure and healthcare access in the capital.
As these developments unfold, the focus remains on improving healthcare services across various regions, with stakeholders advocating for more AIIMS facilities to meet the growing demands of the population.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline and specific plans for the proposed AIIMS in Karnataka, but the call for action continues to resonate among local leaders and health advocates.
