bookmyshow mumbai — IN news

BookMyShow has been the go-to platform for audiences to book movie tickets for well over a decade. As a leader in the ticketing industry, it holds at least a 90% market share in India’s movie ticket booking sector. Recently, the platform has expanded its services to include ticket sales for live events, including cricket matches, which has become a significant aspect of its offerings.

In a recent announcement, BookMyShow revealed that tickets for the highly anticipated match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be available for sale starting March 19, 2026. This match is set to take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29, 2026. The ticket sale will occur in multiple phases, with the first phase concluding on March 21, 2026.

Following the first phase, a second ticket sale phase will commence on March 21, 2026, at 15:00 IST, and will end on March 22, 2026, at 15:00 IST. A third phase will begin on March 22, 2026, at 17:00 IST, concluding on March 23, 2026, at 17:00 IST. Finally, the fourth phase will open to the general public on March 23, 2026, at 18:00 IST. This structured approach aims to ensure that fans have ample opportunity to secure their tickets for the much-anticipated matches.

The Mumbai Indians took to social media to engage their fan base, stating, “Paltan, it’s time to plan your Wankhede matchdays!” This statement reflects the excitement surrounding the upcoming matches and the eagerness of fans to attend live cricket events.

In the broader context of the ticketing industry, BookMyShow has faced scrutiny regarding its dominant position. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently dismissed a complaint against BookMyShow for market abuse, affirming that the platform does not hold a monopoly in the market. Observers noted that while BookMyShow enjoys a significant market share, there are other platforms like Paytm and Justickets that also provide ticketing services, indicating a competitive landscape.

Despite the competitive environment, BookMyShow continues to levy a convenience fee of Rs 25 per ticket sold on its platform. This fee has been a point of discussion among consumers, but it appears to be a standard practice in the online ticketing industry.

As the ticket sales approach, fans and stakeholders are keenly watching how the market will respond. With multiple phases of ticket sales and the excitement surrounding the matches, it is expected that demand will be high. The upcoming matches not only signify a thrilling cricketing event but also highlight the evolving nature of ticket sales in India.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the total number of tickets available and the expected turnout for the matches. However, the anticipation among fans suggests that the events will draw significant crowds, further solidifying BookMyShow’s role in the live event ticketing space.
