अधीर रंजन चौधरी — IN news

In a troubling incident during the election campaign in Malappuram, Kerala, both Shashi Tharoor and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were reportedly attacked, raising alarms about political violence in the region.

The attack on Tharoor’s convoy occurred while he was campaigning for UDF candidate AP Anil Kumar. His convoy, consisting of two vehicles, was blocked by eight individuals, leading to a chaotic scene. A security guard was injured while attempting to intervene during the attack.

Police have since detained two suspects in connection with the incident, which has drawn significant media attention and public concern.

Simultaneously, Chowdhury, who is a candidate for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections from Baharampur, claimed that he was also attacked by workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during his campaign efforts.

Chowdhury has a history of serving multiple terms as an MP from Baharampur, and his recent claims of being targeted by TMC supporters add to the ongoing tensions in the political landscape.

Tharoor expressed his gratitude for the messages of concern he received following the attack, stating, “I am truly moved by your messages and calls expressing concern about the attack on my security personnel.” He described the incident as “unfortunate” and noted that it was the only such event during his 15-16 days on the election trail.

Chowdhury echoed similar sentiments regarding the violence, stating, “TMC workers and supporters attacked me.” His remarks highlight the escalating confrontations between political factions in the lead-up to the elections.

The incidents have intensified scrutiny on the security measures in place for political candidates and the potential for further unrest as the election date approaches.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the attacks and any additional suspects involved. As the situation develops, both parties are likely to face increased pressure to address the safety of their candidates and supporters.
