Instagram Messages Outage: Users Report Widespread Issues
Instagram Messages Outage
On March 11, 2023, users of Instagram began experiencing significant issues with the messaging feature of the app. The outage started around 2 AM in the United States and 7:40 AM IST in India, leading to widespread reports of problems.
Thousands of Instagram users reported being unable to send or receive messages, with over 10,000 complaints logged on Downdetector. The complaints peaked early in the morning, indicating a high concentration of problems at that time.
According to the data collected, 71 percent of the complaints were related to access issues within the app. Additionally, 20 percent of users reported server connection issues, while 5 percent faced problems with the Instagram feed or timeline not loading.
The United States saw the highest concentration of complaints, with users expressing frustration on other social media platforms to confirm the outage. Reports from India indicated around 250 users were affected, while the United Kingdom had approximately 170 reports of issues.
Users took to social media to voice their concerns, with one user asking, “Are Instagram dms down or… am I cooked?” Another user lamented, “My messages, my contacts on Instagram, I can’t use the search tool or even scroll up! The whole thing is just broken right now.”
Despite the widespread issues, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not commented on the outage. Speculation arose regarding a potential link between the outage and the ongoing US-Iran war; however, this relationship remains unconfirmed.
As of now, the situation is ongoing, with users still facing difficulties in accessing Instagram’s messaging features. The exact cause of the outage has not been determined, and details remain unconfirmed.
This outage matters significantly for users who rely on Instagram for communication, especially in a time when social media platforms are integral to daily interactions.
