Sarfaraz ahmed retirement cricket: Sarfaraz Ahmed Retirement from International Cricket
Sarfaraz Ahmed is remembered for leading Pakistan to their first Champions Trophy title in 2017. On March 15, 2026, he announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable 20-year career.
During his time as captain, Sarfaraz led Pakistan in 100 international matches across all formats, achieving a notable ODI win rate of 58 percent from 50 matches. He represented Pakistan in 54 Tests, 117 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 61 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), scoring a total of 6,164 runs, which included six centuries and 35 half-centuries.
In addition to his batting prowess, Sarfaraz was a skilled wicketkeeper, taking 315 catches and completing 56 stumpings behind the stumps. His leadership was instrumental in guiding Pakistan’s U19 team to victory in the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, making him the only captain to have won ICC trophies at both youth and senior levels.
Reflecting on his career, Sarfaraz expressed, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to represent Pakistan.” He also noted, “Seeing players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and others grow into match-winners during my captaincy is one of my proudest achievements.”
His last international appearance was in a Test against Australia in December 2023. Under his leadership, Pakistan achieved a world record of 11 consecutive T20I series victories, further solidifying his legacy in the sport.
As the cricket community reacts to his retirement, many are recognizing the impact Sarfaraz has had on the game and the players who followed in his footsteps. Observers expect that his contributions will be celebrated in the upcoming months as fans and players alike reflect on his significant role in Pakistan cricket.
