the kerala story 2 movie — IN news

The central question surrounding The Kerala Story 2 movie is whether it can achieve a hit status at the box office. As of now, the film has grossed approximately Rs 57 crore since its release on February 27, 2026, but it still needs to earn an additional Rs 7.14 crore to reach that milestone.

By its third Monday, the film had accumulated an estimated net earning of Rs 48.86 crore, with a daily collection of Rs 1.06 crore on Day 18. The occupancy rate across 2,399 shows on that day was recorded at 9.4%, indicating a steady audience interest.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, The Kerala Story 2 features a cast that includes Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, Aishwarya Ojha, Sumit Gahlawat, and Arjan Singh Aujla. The film was produced with a budget of Rs 28 crore and has already become the most profitable Hindi film of 2026, with an estimated profit of Rs 20.86 crore.

The film’s predecessor, The Kerala Story, was a major box office success, grossing over Rs 300 crore globally, which has set high expectations for its sequel. However, the ongoing political and cultural debates surrounding both films have also drawn significant attention.

Critics, including Syed Naseer Hussain, have raised concerns about the film’s narrative, claiming it promotes propaganda-driven narratives that target specific communities, particularly Muslims. Hussain stated, “The continued encouragement of propaganda-driven narratives under the BJP Government has increasingly targeted Muslims and deepened communal polarization.”

Following a free screening of the first film in Vasai, Palghar, participants reportedly took a collective oath calling for the economic and social boycott of Muslims, which has further fueled the controversy.

Hussain emphasized that calls for economic or social boycotts of any community undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India, urging for a rejection of such actions to maintain the nation’s pluralistic character.

Despite these controversies, the film remains successful at the box office, with its financial performance overshadowing the debates. As it approaches the end of its theatrical run, the film’s future earnings and the impact of the controversies on its reception remain to be seen.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments related to the film’s narrative or its reception in different regions of India.
