A breathtaking iridescent cloud over Bogor, Indonesia, went viral last week, showcasing a rare atmospheric phenomenon that captivates viewers. Residents of Jonggol spotted the stunning display, which is related to atmospheric optics.

Ida Pramuwardani from Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated, “The phenomenon seen in the video is a common occurrence in the atmosphere and is related to atmospheric optics.” This event highlights the intricate beauty of cloud iridescence.

Iridescent clouds occur when sunlight diffracts off ice crystals within clouds. They can appear in hues of pink, green, and blue. The colors change rapidly and can quickly disappear.

This particular instance featured a pileus cap—a lenticular cloud—that provided the consistent droplets required for iridescence. Such phenomena are not new; they have been documented since at least 1911.

Iridescent clouds can sometimes be confused with nacreous clouds and coronae. They typically occur near where the sun appears, making them potentially dangerous to observe directly.

The BMKG confirmed that this occurrence was genuine and natural. Similar iridescent clouds have also been sighted in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore in recent years.

The phenomenon went viral on social media platforms, sparking curiosity among locals about this captivating weather event.

The DKI Jakarta BPBD’s urgent call to residents to stop burning garbage highlights the increasing fire risk due to the strengthening El Niño phenomenon. This climate event can lead to long droughts and high temperatures, raising concerns across the region.

Previously, expectations were that Jakarta would experience typical weather patterns. However, recent developments indicate a significant shift. The BPBD has noted a marked increase in fire risk as conditions worsen.

Open burning of garbage can lead to rapid fire spread, particularly in densely populated and dry areas. The BPBD is taking steps to mitigate these risks by preparing firefighting measures and coordinating with the BMKG for early warning information.

Residents are advised to report potential emergencies through Jakarta’s emergency service. Marulituwa Sijabat of the BPBD emphasized the need for vigilance: “We urge people to be vigilant about open fires and the use of electrical equipment and fire.”

Monitoring is ongoing in fire-prone areas. The BPBD has ensured readiness of fire hydrants and firefighting fleets for quick response. Preparation is key to reducing risks from extreme climate events.

Sijabat also stated, “We urge people to stay alert, protect the environment, and report potential emergencies through Jakarta’s 112 service.” These proactive measures are crucial as the community faces heightened challenges from climate change.

India’s textile sector is facing a crisis due to a severe shortage of natural gas and rising costs, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions. On May 3, 2026, the situation has intensified as GAIL (India) Limited struggles to meet demand.

The textile and handicraft sectors are under significant pressure. Natural gas and LPG shortages have led to increased production costs for manufacturers. GAIL has turned to the spot market for gas, paying premium prices of $17-$20 MMBtu compared to usual prices of $12-$15 MMBtu.

Natural gas consumption in India stands at approximately 189 million MMSCMD, with over half coming from imports. The government issued a Natural Gas Control Order to prioritize key sectors, but industrial buyers still face supply uncertainty.

The ongoing geopolitical tensions are impacting gas supply to India’s textile centers. Conflict has disrupted global fuel trade routes, affecting industrial consumers across the nation.

Key facts:

Natural gas consumption in India is about 189 million MMSCMD.

The government aims for 80% allocation stability for industrial consumers.

Over 60% of natural gas imports pass through the Hormuz Strait.

Officials have not confirmed the timeline for resolution. The high prices and limited availability suggest challenges ahead for the industry. Experts warn that this situation may lead to further strain on production capabilities.

Statements from industry leaders reflect concern over the impact on manufacturers. They emphasize that the high prices represent a significant burden on energy-dependent sectors like textiles. There is a call for diversification of India’s energy resources to mitigate future risks.

A significant temperature shift is expected across the U.S. on May 2, 2026, as warmer conditions emerge following a cooler spell. Much of the country will experience a transition to a quieter spring weather pattern.

Temperatures will surge above average in many areas. Highs in the central Plains and Midwest will reach into the 70s and lower 80s. However, the Northeast will remain cooler, with highs mainly in the 40s and 50s.

Florida will see unsettled conditions, with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to a passing cold front. Additionally, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to affect the interior Rockies and Southwest.

Key temperature facts:

High temperatures in the central Plains and Midwest will reach into the 70s and 80s.

The Northeast will have highs primarily in the 40s and 50s.

Temperatures in West Michigan are forecasted to be 10-15 degrees below average.

In West Michigan, temperatures will climb into the upper 40s to lower 50s today, but a chance for showers exists. Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop into the middle 30s under a partly cloudy sky.

Meanwhile, Cyprus will also experience significant temperature fluctuations. High temperatures inland are predicted to hit around 27 degrees Celsius, while lows may drop to about 11 degrees Celsius.

Strong winds are anticipated in Cyprus, along with possible snow and sleet in the Troodos mountains. Localized rain and isolated storms are expected there as well.

This shift towards warmer conditions marks a notable change from recent weather patterns across much of the United States.

Heavy rains in northeastern Brazil have resulted in at least six deaths and thousands displaced, underscoring the trend of increasing rain disasters in the region.

Authorities reported that flooding and landslides affected areas such as Recife, Pernambuco, where at least two fatalities occurred. Around 1,500 people were displaced due to storms in both Pernambuco and Paraiba states.

The National Center for Risk and Disaster Management in Brazil issued 22 emergency alerts during this weather event. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated, “The government continues to monitor the situation to provide all necessary assistance.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a yellow warning for rainfall, lightning, and strong winds in Delhi for the next two days. The IMD recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung station.

This pattern of severe weather is not new. A study released last year found that rain disasters, including flooding and landslides, tripled in Brazil from 1991 to 2023. This alarming trend raises concerns about future events.

The IMD has predicted temperatures between 36–38 degrees Celsius during the day across Delhi-NCR. Additionally, it issued orange and yellow alerts for different parts of the area warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The impact of these weather conditions may continue to escalate as observers remain vigilant. The operational level was raised to maximum alert due to the impacts in Pernambuco and Paraiba.
