“It was important to get the win. It was important to break the momentum and the form we were in,” said Chelsea’s interim boss Calum McFarlane after his team’s 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final.
The match took place on April 25, 2026, at Wembley Stadium. Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal in the 94th minute, securing Chelsea’s spot in their sixth FA Cup final in ten years. This victory came just days after Chelsea sacked manager Liam Rosenior, marking a significant turnaround for a team that had lost seven of their previous eight matches.
Chelsea had struggled in recent weeks, ending a five-game losing streak in the Premier League with this win. Meanwhile, Leeds United entered the game with a seven-game unbeaten streak but could not capitalize on their momentum.
McFarlane emphasized that this win changes the mood within the group. “This win changes the mood in the group,” he stated. The team now prepares to face Manchester City in the final.
Leeds’ manager Daniel Farke acknowledged Chelsea’s performance, saying, “Congratulations to Chelsea. It could have gone into both directions.” His team fought hard but ultimately fell short.
Chelsea’s last goal before this match was during their FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale. The team had gone three Premier League games without scoring prior to this crucial match.
The victory at Wembley marks an important moment for Chelsea. They will look to build on this success as they head into the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
