CSK Matches: Chennai Super Kings Secure First Win of IPL 2026 Against Delhi Capitals
By Vikram Nair / 12.04.2026
Before the match on April 12, 2026, expectations were low for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who had lost three consecutive games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team was under pressure, and their performance had raised doubts about their capabilities this season.
However, the match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) marked a decisive turning point for CSK. Sanju Samson delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 115 runs off 56 balls, leading CSK to a victory by 23 runs. This win was not only crucial for the team’s morale but also marked their first win of IPL 2026.
In addition to Samson’s remarkable innings, Jamie Overton made a significant impact with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs. His performance was instrumental in restricting the Delhi Capitals and securing the win for CSK.
Sanju Samson dedicated his century to head coach Stephen Fleming, acknowledging the challenges the team faced. “Yeah, that was, I think, for Fleming. I think I know how hard it can get,” Samson remarked after the match.
The victory had immediate effects on the team dynamics. It boosted the confidence of the players and shifted the narrative surrounding CSK’s performance in the tournament. The team can now build on this momentum as they move forward in the league.
Samson’s achievement also marked a milestone, as he became the first wicketkeeper-batter to score a century for CSK in the IPL. Furthermore, he joined KL Rahul as the only players to score a hundred for three different IPL franchises, highlighting his versatility and skill.
Despite the win, CSK faced a setback when Ruturaj Gaikwad was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges teams face in managing their performance within the constraints of the game.
Experts noted that the win against DC could be a turning point for CSK in the tournament. “It’s definitely a challenging score, to be very honest, I think. But with the amount of bowlers that we have, I think if we have a good powerplay, it will be really good,” Samson stated, reflecting on the team’s potential moving forward.
As CSK looks ahead, they will aim to capitalize on this victory and improve their standing in the league. The match against DC has reinvigorated the team and its supporters, setting the stage for a more competitive season ahead.
