Harry Kane has become England’s all-time leading scorer in the World Cup, surpassing Gary Lineker’s previous record. This achievement came during England’s 2-0 victory over Panama, which secured their top spot in Group L. The match saw goals from both Jude Bellingham and Kane.

Kane’s record-breaking goal was his eleventh in World Cup competitions. He scored by heading in a cross from Jude Bellingham in the second half of Saturday’s match. This goal pushed him past Lineker’s total of ten World Cup goals.

The England captain expressed his pride in reaching this milestone. He noted that the World Cup is the most significant competition for professional footballers and that achieving eleven goals is a source of great satisfaction. Kane is younger than Messi, and both players are looking to increase their goal tallies in the ongoing World Cup. Kane has more World Cup goals than Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who has ten. However, he is four goals behind Brazil’s Ronaldo, who has fifteen.

Another legend within Kane’s sights is Brazil’s Pele, who is one goal ahead with twelve World Cup goals. Pele is the only player to have won the World Cup three times and scored in four tournaments: 1958, 1962, 1966, and 1970. His twelve goals were scored in sixteen World Cup games, the same number of games Kane has played so far.

Pele has a slightly better goals-per-minute ratio, averaging a goal every 105 minutes in World Cups, compared to Kane’s 113 minutes. The match against Panama also saw Jordan Henderson become the first England player to participate in four FIFA World Cups after coming on as a substitute.
