The opening match of IPL 2026 is scheduled for March 28, 2026, at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time, featuring RCB against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rajat Patidar will lead the RCB, while Ishan Kishan will step in as the captain for SRH due to Pat Cummins’ injury.

In a poignant gesture, 11 seats at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will remain permanently vacant in memory of the victims, and a memorial plaque will be installed at the venue to honor those who died in the incident. BCCI officials stated, “The decision serves as a mark of respect for the 11 fans who lost their lives in a stampede outside the stadium during celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title win in June last year.”
