Liam Livingstone Criticizes England Cricket Management

Liam Livingstone has not played for the England cricket team since the Champions Trophy last year, where he described his experience as “the worst experience I’ve had playing cricket.” This sentiment reflects a growing concern among players regarding their treatment within the England setup.

In May of last year, Livingstone was dropped from the England team after a brief phone call with coach Brendon McCullum. He stated, “I don’t think it would have reached a minute. I asked why; they said they wanted to try someone else.” This abrupt decision has left Livingstone feeling undervalued.

Following his exclusion, Livingstone lost his central contract with England in September. His performance during the Champions Trophy was modest, scoring 33 runs and taking three wickets across three matches. Despite this, he expressed a lack of desire to return, saying, “I didn’t miss it one bit. There wasn’t any part of me that was wishing I was playing in that team, to be honest.”

Livingstone’s comments shed light on a broader issue within the England cricket management. He remarked, “That probably sums that group up as a collective. That was a bit of an eye-opening experience about the group and the regime: if you’re in, you’re in, and if you’re not in, no one cares about you.” This highlights the perceived disconnect between the management and players who are not part of the core group.

Despite the challenges he faced with the national team, Livingstone has found success in other formats of the game. He secured a £1 million deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League and received a £350,000 bid from London Spirit at the Hundred auction.
