Bangladesh’s ODI Series Against Pakistan Begins

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team, is set to lead his squad in a crucial three-match series against Pakistan starting on March 11, 2026, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. This series comes at a pivotal time for Bangladesh, as they aim to improve their recent ODI performance.

Bangladesh has struggled in their recent outings, losing four of their last five ODI series. With the cut-off date for direct qualification to the 2027 World Cup approaching on March 31, 2027, the team is under pressure to secure victories. The upcoming matches against Pakistan are seen as essential for their World Cup aspirations.

In the last 15 ODIs played since the last World Cup, Bangladesh has only managed to secure a few wins, which has placed them at a lowly 10th in the world rankings. Miraz emphasized the importance of building good habits, stating, “In World Cups, wickets are very good and we want to start that habit from now on.” He also noted, “You can’t take a team lightly since in international cricket, all teams are good.”

Pakistan arrives in Bangladesh with a squad that includes six uncapped players, marking their first full 50-over tour of Bangladesh in over ten years. Historically, Bangladesh has faced Pakistan in a total of 39 matches, winning only five. However, they have managed to secure three victories at home against Pakistan in April 2015.

As the series approaches, the Bangladesh team is focused on turning their fortunes around. Miraz expressed confidence, saying, “I am not worried. I’m not worried about it at all.” This sentiment reflects the team’s determination to perform well on home soil.

The stakes are high for both teams, as Bangladesh seeks to re-establish itself on the international stage after missing the recent men’s T20 World Cup. The series against Pakistan will be a significant test for Miraz and his team.

With the cricketing world watching, the upcoming ODIs will not only impact Bangladesh’s World Cup qualification hopes but also set the tone for their future in international cricket.
