Navdeep Saini Joins Kolkata Knight Riders as Replacement
By Rohan Mehta / 25.03.2026
Navdeep Saini has been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for the injured pacer Harshit Rana ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This move marks a significant opportunity for Saini, who has not played in the IPL since 2023.
Saini’s career in the IPL has seen him play 32 matches, during which he has taken 23 wickets with an economy rate of 8.88. His last appearance in the league was in 2023, and he was signed by KKR for INR 75 lakh.
Previously, Saini represented teams such as Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals, and he expressed that joining KKR carries a “special emotional value” for him. He described this opportunity as a “revival” in his career, indicating the importance of this moment after facing challenges in recent years.
His breakthrough season came in 2019 when he debuted for RCB, and he was initially picked by Delhi Daredevils in 2017, although he did not play any matches that season. Saini’s IPL career had been on hold since 2021, similar to his international career, where he has played two Tests, eight ODIs, and 11 T20Is for India.
KKR evaluated several bowlers during trials before selecting Saini, showcasing their commitment to strengthening their bowling lineup. Saini reflected on his journey, stating, “I saw many ups and downs in the last two-three years. But the important thing was to be there and keep working hard.”
As Saini steps into this new role with KKR, he aims to leverage this opportunity to make a significant impact in the upcoming season. His return to the IPL is highly anticipated by fans and analysts alike, given his previous performances and potential.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how Saini will fit into KKR’s strategy for IPL 2026, but his presence is expected to bolster their bowling attack significantly.
