AC Milan Secures Derby Win
In a thrilling encounter at San Siro, AC Milan edged out Inter Milan 1-0 in the Derby della Madonnina on March 8, 2026. Pervis Estupinan’s goal in the 35th minute proved decisive, allowing Milan to close the gap to seven points behind their city rivals in the Serie A standings.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Milan, as it is the first time they have won both league derbies against Inter since the 2010-11 season. Furthermore, Milan has now secured three consecutive wins against Inter in all competitions for the first time in over a decade.
With this win, Milan reached a total of 60 points after 28 Serie A matches, a milestone they have achieved for the fourth time since the 2009-10 season. The performance has sparked optimism among fans and players alike.
Massimiliano Allegri, Milan’s coach, acknowledged the importance of the victory, stating, “This victory gives us a morale-booster.” However, he also emphasized the challenge ahead, noting, “Inter have a seven-point lead. That’s a big advantage, they are still the strongest team and the clear favourites.”
The Opta supercomputer currently assigns Milan a 5.6% chance of overtaking Inter for the title, reflecting the uphill battle they face in the remaining fixtures of the season.
Historically, the rivalry between AC Milan and Inter Milan has been intense, with both clubs vying for supremacy in Italian football. This latest derby win adds another chapter to their storied competition.
As the season progresses, observers will be keen to see if Milan can maintain their momentum and challenge for the Scudetto, or if Inter will solidify their position at the top of the table. The outcome of the remaining matches will be crucial in determining the final standings.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the potential impact of this victory on Milan’s title aspirations, but the team’s recent form suggests they are ready to fight until the end.
