Naan Mudhalvan: A Catalyst for Success

“As an IAS officer, I want to improve the service delivery systems so govt programmes reach people more effectively,” stated Rajeshwari Suve, who secured All-India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. This achievement highlights the significant impact of the Naan Mudhalvan scheme in Tamil Nadu.

In total, 56 candidates from Tamil Nadu cleared the Civil Services Examination this year, with three securing ranks within the top 20. A R Rajah Mohaideen, who achieved All-India Rank 7, expressed, “The Covid pandemic made me think of becoming a civil servant.” This reflects a growing aspiration among youth in the state to serve in public administration.

The Naan Mudhalvan scheme, which provides guidance and coaching for competitive examinations, has been instrumental in this success. Out of the successful candidates, 39 received residential coaching under this initiative, which aims to enhance the preparation of aspirants.

Rajeshwari Suve, currently a deputy collector in Dindigul district, previously attempted the UPSC exam three times before shifting her focus to TNPSC exams. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Anna University, Chennai.

Rajah Mohaideen, who formed a Telegram group for joint preparation with fellow aspirants from Tamil Nadu, is among those who benefited from the scheme. T Sankara Saravanan, a representative of the coaching initiative, noted, “While 39 candidates, including Rajeshwari Suve, were residential aspirants, 17, including Rajah Mohaideen, received fellowship.”

More than 150 candidates from Tamil Nadu appeared for the interview stage, indicating a robust interest in civil services careers. The last time Tamil Nadu produced a national topper was in 2010, making this year’s results particularly noteworthy.

The performance of Tamil Nadu candidates in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 mirrors last year’s tally of 57 successful candidates, showcasing a consistent trend of excellence.

As the state continues to support its aspirants through initiatives like Naan Mudhalvan, the future looks promising for those aiming to join the ranks of civil servants.
