A hailstorm affected life in Kalghatgi town and various villages in Dharwad district on March 17, 2026. Residents were forced to take shelter due to the sudden onset of the storm, which left farmland, roads, open spaces, and rooftops covered in hailstones, resembling snow. Several vehicles were stranded on roads as hailstones accumulated, disrupting transportation.

In Bengaluru, heavy rainfall accompanied the hailstorm, impacting areas such as Sanjayanagar, Yelahanka, and Devanahalli. The adverse weather conditions were not limited to Karnataka; Manipur also experienced heavy rain, hailstorms, and strong winds that affected multiple districts.

In Noney district, approximately 38 houses and school buildings were completely damaged by the hailstorm. The storm uprooted trees and damaged electric poles in Tamenglong and Noney, leading to disruptions in connectivity and power supply. The weather department has issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and lightning in Manipur, indicating the potential for further severe weather.

In addition, around ten houses were damaged in Thoubal district due to the hailstorm, while nearly 30 houses were affected in several villages of Kakching district. The Chief Minister of Manipur has instructed officials to assist the affected people, highlighting the government’s response to the disaster.
