This investigation follows the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by the Chhattisgarh Economic Offences Wing and Anti-Corruption Bureau.

On January 30, 2020, the ED initiated its probe, uncovering a criminal conspiracy involving land brokers, private individuals, and certain public servants. These parties allegedly colluded to fraudulently obtain excess compensation for land parcels associated with the highway project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana.
