Indian Railways has announced a significant enhancement in its operations, with nearly 25,000 trains running daily across the nation. This development, highlighted by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, underscores the commitment of Indian Railways to transform connectivity and improve the travel experience for millions of passengers.

In the freight sector, Indian Railways achieved a remarkable milestone, loading 1,670 million tonnes of freight in the fiscal year 2025-26. This achievement reflects the growing efficiency and capacity of the railway network, which plays a crucial role in the country’s logistics and supply chain.

Moreover, Indian Railways has ramped up its production capabilities, producing over 1,500 locomotives and more than 6,600 LHB coaches. These advancements are part of a broader strategy to modernize the fleet and enhance operational efficiency.

In a bid to improve safety and operational reliability, Indian Railways has commissioned the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System over 3,000 route kilometres. This system is designed to prevent collisions and enhance the safety of train operations, marking a significant step forward in railway safety technology.

Additionally, Indian Railways has approved a substantial ₹398.36 crore optical fibre project aimed at enhancing communication infrastructure in the Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions. This project will cover 1,929 route kilometres and is part of a larger national initiative valued at ₹27,693 crore to establish a robust railway communication backbone.

The optical fibre project is expected to lay high-capacity fibre optic cables, facilitating better communication and operational efficiency across the regions of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is anticipated to significantly improve the connectivity of railway operations, thereby enhancing service delivery.

Shri Anurag Kapil, who has recently taken charge as Director (Finance) at NMDC Limited, brings over 26 years of experience across Indian Railways and CPSUs, which may contribute to further advancements in railway operations and financial management.

As these developments unfold, the railway sector is poised for a transformative phase, with officials and stakeholders expressing optimism about the future of Indian Railways.
