In response, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is coordinating a national response, describing the outbreak as a public health emergency of unusual speed and scale. A mass vaccination program targeting 5,000 students at the University of Kent is being implemented, alongside the prescription of antibiotics to approximately 2,500 individuals who were in close contact with confirmed cases.

As of now, there are 11 notifications under investigation by the UKHSA, with nine cases confirmed by laboratory tests. The exact origin of the outbreak remains under investigation, and details remain unconfirmed regarding the potential for the outbreak to spread beyond British borders.
