The significant rise in AC prices in India is driven by unprecedented increases in raw material costs and new energy efficiency regulations set to take effect on January 1, 2026.

The increase in AC prices is influenced by both rising costs of raw materials and stricter energy efficiency regulations. Input costs for AC manufacturers have surged by 14% to 16%, the highest rise since 2011. This increase is primarily due to higher prices for copper, aluminum, and steel.

New energy efficiency standards will require manufacturers to produce more complex and efficient units, which will further raise production costs. The pressure on prices is expected to continue for the next 12 to 18 months.

Consumer electronics companies are adjusting prices due to these rising costs. The situation is concerning for consumer electronics manufacturers, including Voltas. Analysts are optimistic about Blue Star Ltd. in the long term but see challenges in the short term due to these costs and stock valuation.

AC manufacturers are feeling the pressure of rising input costs and new energy efficiency regulations, according to Veer S. Advani, MD of Blue Star Ltd. If prices rise too much or economic uncertainty increases, demand may decrease.

Companies are looking for cost-saving methods to mitigate the impact of rising costs. The sector has seen lower profit margins during past commodity price spikes like in 2011.
