The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is facing mounting criticism following a food safety incident on a Vande Bharat train operating between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. A passenger, Aditya Didwania, reported finding an insect in the food served during the journey, prompting immediate action from IRCTC.

In response to the incident, IRCTC imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the service provider, M/S Brandavan Food Products, which is part of the RK Group. This penalty reflects the seriousness with which IRCTC is treating the matter, as they strive to maintain hygiene and safety standards for passengers. “Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted. The matter has been viewed with the utmost seriousness and a hefty penalty of Rs 10 lakh along with termination notice of the contract is being issued to the Service Provider,” an IRCTC spokesperson stated.

At least two similar incidents were reported in the same coach, raising concerns among passengers about the overall quality of food served on Vande Bharat trains. Following the complaints, IRCTC issued a termination notice to Brandavan Food Products and sealed their kitchen for deep cleaning and pest control.
