Vijay TVK: Vijay Rules Out Alliances for Upcoming Elections
In a significant development, Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced on March 18, 2026, that his party will contest all 234 constituencies in the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, India. This decision comes as he ruled out any alliances with other political parties, emphasizing a strong independent stance.
Vijay’s announcement follows a tumultuous period marked by a tragic stampede during a TVK rally on September 27, 2025, which resulted in 41 deaths and 60 injuries. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly focusing on the movement of Vijay’s vehicle during the rally.
During the investigation, Vijay was interrogated for nearly seven hours regarding the planning and crowd management of the rally. The police have also registered cases against several TVK functionaries in connection with the stampede, highlighting the challenges of managing large political gatherings.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Vijay has firmly stated that he seeks the trust of the Tamil Nadu people rather than pursuing power. “There is no room for compromise in our politics. Do not believe any false propaganda,” he asserted, reinforcing his commitment to secular social justice principles.
Vijay declined an offer for the chief minister’s post, which was proposed with a 50:50 seat-sharing arrangement, indicating his resolve to maintain TVK’s independence. Aadhav Arjuna, a prominent figure in the party, remarked, “Vijay is not a person who will succumb to Delhi for the sake of the chief minister’s post. He wants the trust of Tamil Nadu people.”
Vijay’s party positions itself as a strong force determined to contest independently, reflecting a broader trend in Tamil Nadu politics where regional parties are asserting their identities. The investigation into the stampede is ongoing, with authorities striving to determine accountability for the tragic event.
As the elections approach, Vijay’s commitment to his principles and the trust of the electorate will be crucial. He stated, “With the blessing of God, we will achieve our target,” signaling his determination to lead TVK into the elections with a clear vision.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the identity of the political party that offered Vijay the chief minister’s post, and it remains unclear whether the movement of his vehicle was intentional or accidental.
