The numbers

Arundhati Reddy, a 28-year-old Indian pacer from Hyderabad, has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for February 2026. This recognition comes on the heels of her outstanding performance in the T20I series against Australia, where she emerged as the leading wicket-taker, claiming a total of 8 wickets.

Reddy’s bowling average during the series was an impressive 10.87, complemented by an economy rate of 7.25. Her best performance came in the first T20I, where she took 4 wickets for just 22 runs, showcasing her ability to perform under pressure. In the subsequent matches, she continued to excel, registering figures of 2/30 in the second T20I and 2/35 in the third T20I.

India’s victory in the T20I series against Australia, which they won 2-1, marked a significant achievement as it was their first series win in Australia since 2016. Reddy’s contributions were pivotal in this success, helping to instill confidence in the team as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Reflecting on her achievement, Reddy stated, “It’s a real honour to be named ICC Player of the Month, and even more special knowing I was able to contribute to a T20I series win in Australia.” She emphasized the difficulty of winning against Australia on their home ground, adding, “Beating Australia on their home turf is never easy, which makes this award even more meaningful.”

Reddy’s performances not only earned her individual accolades but also set a record for the most wickets taken in a three-match T20I series. She was selected for the Player of the Month award ahead of notable competitors such as Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama and Pakistan’s Fatima Sana.

Having made her international debut in 2018, Reddy’s journey in cricket has been marked by consistent improvement and determination. Her recent performances have been crucial in building momentum for the Indian team as they look forward to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales this summer. Reddy expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, stating, “We’ve got a well-balanced squad, and I believe we’ll be a team to watch.”

As the cricketing world turns its attention to the upcoming tournament, observers will be keen to see how Reddy and her teammates build on this success. The confidence gained from their series win in Australia could prove invaluable in the challenges that lie ahead.
