Rising Pune Supergiant: A Look at Key Players and Performances
By Vikram Nair / 04.04.2026
The Rising Pune Supergiant has made notable strides in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception. Adam Zampa, who debuted with the team in IPL 2016, has emerged as a key player, taking 31 wickets in just 22 matches.
Rahul Tripathi also made a significant impact during his time with the Rising Pune Supergiant, scoring 391 runs in his debut season in 2017. Acquired for ₹10 Lakh, he quickly established himself as a valuable asset, finishing as the top scorer for his team that season with a strike rate of 146.44.
Ajinkya Rahane, another prominent figure, has completed 1,040 runs as captain in the IPL, showcasing his leadership and batting prowess. In the IPL 2026 opener, he scored 67 runs off 40 balls, contributing to a strong start for his team.
Rahane’s partnership with Finn Allen, which yielded 69 runs, highlighted their dominance during the powerplay overs, further solidifying his role in the team.
Despite their successes, Adam Zampa has expressed concerns about the financial aspects of the IPL, stating, “I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that others with other skill sets do.” He added, “It just didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it.” This sentiment reflects a broader discussion about player valuations in the league.
Tripathi’s journey from being a ₹10 Lakh acquisition to being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹75 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction illustrates the evolving landscape of player contracts and valuations.
Historically, the Rising Pune Supergiant has been a platform for players to showcase their talent, with Zampa previously playing for teams like Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
As the IPL continues to evolve, observers are keen to see how these players will adapt and contribute to their respective teams in future seasons. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any upcoming changes in team composition or player movements.
