Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has successfully completed technical trials for a fully contactless passenger journey system. This innovative initiative aims to enhance the international travel experience by minimizing physical interactions, thus ensuring a seamless and secure process for passengers.
The trials were conducted in collaboration with key industry partners, including IndiGo, the Digi Yatra Foundation, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This partnership highlights the airport’s commitment to adopting next-generation aviation technology.
The contactless system showcased during the trials featured an end-to-end digital journey powered by biometric identification, allowing travelers to navigate through the airport with greater ease. This initiative is part of IATA’s global proof-of-concept programme, positioning Kempegowda International Airport as a leader in the implementation of advanced travel solutions.
Previously, the airport had introduced the Digi Yatra platform for domestic travel, further emphasizing its focus on digital transformation in the aviation sector. Kempegowda International Airport is currently the only airport in India participating in IATA’s initiative, underscoring its unique role in the industry.
In a separate incident, a bomb threat email sent to the airport’s Customer Engagement Centre was determined to be a hoax, ensuring that operations continued without disruption.
