As of June 2025, Microsoft had approximately 228,000 employees globally, with 125,000 based in the U.S. About 8,750 workers could be eligible for the buyout program. This marks the first such move in its 51-year history.

The company’s financial results reflect strong performance. Microsoft reported $83 billion in quarterly revenue and $32 billion in net income. Additionally, its AI business has reached an annual revenue run rate of over $37 billion, marking a 123% increase.

Amy Hood projected 39% to 40% growth for the Azure business in the current quarter. These developments indicate a strategic pivot towards enhancing cloud services while managing workforce levels.
