Smart Electricity
Consumers in Uttar Pradesh will now have 15 days to recharge their prepaid smart meters. This change aims to reduce the urgency of recharging and streamline the billing process.
Before prepaid meters, consumers faced issues with power cuts when their balance ran out. Now, prepaid smart meters will function similarly to postpaid ones. Consumers will receive monthly bills with a clear timeline for payment.
Key facts:
- Consumers will receive bills every month and have a 15-day period for payment.
- Payments for outstanding bills until April 30 can be made in 10 easy installments.
- Bills will be calculated based on electricity consumption from the first to the last day of each month.
- Bills will be sent directly to mobile phones via SMS and WhatsApp.
Electricity consumers can file complaints on the 1912 portal. The government has decided to set up special camps to resolve issues related to smart meters and billing. There are strict directives regarding electricity supply as well.
Energy Minister A.K. Sharma stated, “This step is taken keeping consumer convenience in mind.” He added that the billing system will now be easier, ensuring timely information about bills for consumers.
