These poignant words from Droupadi Murmu, India’s first tribal President, resonated deeply during her address at the International Santhal Conference held at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan on March 7, 2026. The conference, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Santhal community, was marked by Murmu’s emphasis on the intertwining of democracy and cultural respect.

The significance of Murmu’s presence at this event was underscored by the last-minute change of venue due to a lack of permissions, which highlighted the challenges faced in organizing cultural events. These historical panels, which were never meant to be mere museum objects, are set to be displayed at the National Gallery of Modern Art from March 9 to April 9, 2026. Nidhi Choudhari, a curator involved in the exhibition titled ‘Colours of Swades’, remarked, “Technology is a tool of interpretation. It helps visitors step closer into the world Bose imagined.” This exhibition aims to bridge the gap between the past and the present, utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance the viewer’s experience.
