Today is International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day Observed Today
Today is International Women’s Day, celebrated globally to recognize the achievements of women across various domains. This year, the theme is ‘Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.’ In New Delhi, significant events are taking place to honor this occasion, including a women-led walk titled Shakti Walk organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development along Kartavya Path.
Celebrations in New Delhi
President Droupadi Murmu is set to join the celebrations at the Manekshaw Centre, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and opportunities. The day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the need for equal rights and opportunities for all women and girls.
International Women’s Day has a rich history, having been recognized by the United Nations since 1977. The day is not only a celebration but also a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This year, the global campaign theme ‘Give to Gain’ emphasizes the importance of supporting women’s rights and empowerment.
Economic Contributions
In the context of women’s empowerment, it is noteworthy that the real estate sector, which is the second largest contributor to GDP and employment in India, plays a significant role in economic development. In the financial year 2024–25, this sector contributed 7.5% to the national GDP, and projections suggest it could grow into a $1 trillion industry by 2030, contributing around 13-15% of GDP.
Specifically, in Uttar Pradesh, the real estate sector accounted for 12.7% of the state’s GDP in 2025. This illustrates the potential for economic growth and job creation, which can significantly benefit women in the workforce, thereby aligning with the goals of International Women’s Day.
Looking Ahead
As we observe International Women’s Day today, it is crucial to reflect on the progress made and the challenges that remain. The life path number for 8 March 2026 is 8, and the destiny number is 3, which may symbolize the ongoing journey towards achieving gender equality.
Reactions and Statements
Initial reactions to the events of today highlight a strong commitment from various organizations and individuals to continue advocating for women’s rights. Official statements emphasize the need for sustained efforts to ensure that the rights of women and girls are upheld and that their contributions to society are recognized and valued.
