Demolition of Compound Wall at Praneeth Antilia

On March 9, 2026, the Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRAA) executed the demolition of a compound wall at Praneeth Antilia, a residential layout in Bachupally, Hyderabad. This action was taken under police protection and followed directives from the Telangana High Court. The wall had been obstructing a crucial 40-foot road that connects Mallampet and Bachupally, significantly impacting local traffic.

The removal of the wall has reduced the commuting distance for residents from 8 kilometers to just 3 kilometers, a change that is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area. A.V. Ranganath, a spokesperson for HYDRAA, stated, “Removing the compound wall and opening the road would help ease traffic congestion and benefit thousands of residents in the surrounding areas.” This decision comes in light of increased traffic congestion following the opening of Exit 4 on the Outer Ring Road.

Despite the potential benefits, the demolition has sparked protests among residents who argue that it compromises their safety. For over 12 years, the residents of Praneeth Antilia have enjoyed the benefits typically associated with gated communities, even though the layout was sanctioned as a group housing project and not officially recognized as a gated community by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). Ranganath emphasized, “Praneeth Antilia is not a Gated Community as per HMDA approved plan.”

The compound wall had previously been demolished by HYDRAA on June 24, 2025, indicating ongoing tensions surrounding the layout’s status and the road access issues. Following complaints about road blockage, HYDRAA issued notices to remove the wall, leading to the latest demolition. Residents have expressed concerns that the removal of the wall could lead to increased traffic and reduced safety in their community.

In response to the situation, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has begun laying a BT road along the cleared stretch, which is expected to benefit residents from multiple colonies in the vicinity. However, the ongoing protests suggest that many residents remain unconvinced about the safety and accessibility improvements.

As the situation develops, observers are closely monitoring the reactions from the community and local authorities. The balance between improving traffic flow and ensuring the safety of residents remains a contentious issue. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further actions that may be taken by either the residents or the authorities in response to the demolition.

The future of Praneeth Antilia and its residents hangs in the balance as discussions continue about the implications of the wall’s removal and the layout’s classification. The outcome of this situation may set a precedent for similar developments in Hyderabad and beyond.
