Sonyliv: Sitaare Zameen Par Streaming on
Sitaare Zameen Par’s Journey
Aamir Khan’s film Sitaare Zameen Par is set to begin streaming on SonyLIV on March 11, 2026, after a successful theatrical release. The film, which is an official remake of the Spanish film Champions (Campeones), has garnered significant attention and revenue since its debut.
Initially, Khan opted for a YouTube rental model instead of pursuing streaming deals with major OTT platforms, rejecting offers that reached up to ₹125 crore. The YouTube rental charged ₹100 per watch, allowing viewers to access the film in a different format.
During its theatrical run, Sitaare Zameen Par earned ₹167 crore in India, showcasing its popularity among audiences. However, the film’s production faced challenges when Khan had to buy back Sony’s 25% stake, which increased the production budget from ₹96 crore to approximately ₹133 crore.
This decision to shift from a traditional OTT release to a rental model reflects Khan’s desire to challenge industry norms and explore alternative distribution strategies. His initial rejection of OTT deals was a significant move in an industry increasingly dominated by streaming services.
In addition to the film’s success, the entertainment landscape is also witnessing the rise of new series on platforms like SonyLIV. For instance, Raat Jawaan Hai, featuring Barun Sobti as a stay-at-home father, has been gaining traction, with Sobti expressing the prominence of maternal instincts on set.
Moreover, Everaw Nutrition, co-founded by Lucky Soni, Yash Soni, and Kanika Kishnani, recently appeared on Shark Tank India Season 5, presenting their clean-label children’s food products. Their approach emphasizes the importance of healthy eating for children, with Soni stating, “It’s simple – we wanted to build absolutely clean products that kids enjoy and parents trust.”
As the streaming date approaches, the film’s transition to SonyLIV marks a significant moment for Khan and his production team, highlighting the evolving nature of film distribution in India. The success of Sitaare Zameen Par may pave the way for more filmmakers to consider alternative release strategies in the future.
Overall, the current state of both the film and the series landscape on platforms like SonyLIV reflects a dynamic shift in how content is consumed, with audiences increasingly embracing diverse viewing options.
