Rajya Sabha elections: NDA Dominates in Bihar and Odisha
The recent Rajya Sabha elections have concluded with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing victory in all five seats from Bihar, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three out of four seats from Odisha. This election marks a significant political development in both states.
In Bihar, the winning candidates include Nitin Nabin, Shivesh Ram, Nitish Kumar, Ramnath Thakur, and Upendra Kushwaha. The Mahagathbandhan, which includes parties like the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), failed to secure a single seat, with Amarendra Dhari Singh from RJD losing in the elections.
Meanwhile, in Odisha, the BJP’s success was underscored by the election of Manmohan Samal, Sujeet Kumar, and Santrupt Mishra, alongside Dilip Ray, who ran as a BJP-backed independent candidate. Notably, cross-voting played a decisive role in these elections, with 11 MLAs from opposition parties casting their votes for Ray.
This election in Odisha was particularly significant as it was the first contested Upper House polls in 12 years, highlighting a shift in the political landscape. The elections were held to fill a total of 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, with 26 candidates elected unopposed in various regions.
The polling hours for the elections spanned from 9 am to 4 pm, allowing ample time for the voting process. The results indicate a strong showing for the NDA, reinforcing its position in both Bihar and Odisha.
As political analysts assess the outcomes, the implications for future elections and party dynamics in these states remain a point of interest. The NDA’s clean sweep in Bihar and strong performance in Odisha could signal shifts in voter sentiment and party strategies moving forward.
