Reports indicate that the Brazil international informed Newcastle management last month of his desire to join Arsenal this summer. Football expert Julian Laurens commented on the situation, suggesting that Newcastle would seek to maximize any transfer fee from Arsenal. Laurens described the negotiations as an “interesting chess game” between the two clubs, anticipating that the initial bid would be rejected. He believes that while there are no issues between the player and Arsenal, the focus is on the clubs reaching an agreement. Newcastle is reportedly aware of Guimaraes’s wish to move to Arsenal, and the club’s financial situation is also a factor in these discussions.

The expert expects the transfer to be finalized within the next few weeks. He highlighted that if the move proceeds, Arsenal would acquire a versatile midfielder capable of playing as a No 6, No 8, or No 10. Mikel Arteta‘s interest in Guimaraes is reportedly due to his press-resistant qualities, making him effective in playing out from the back against high-pressing teams.

In other transfer news, Arsenal is also reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Real Madrid‘s Vinicius Jr, with a transfer for the Brazilian winger now considered a possibility. To facilitate significant deals, which could involve fees near or exceeding £100m, Arsenal may need to sell some players.
