Manchester city f.c. and the Quest for the Quadruple
By Rohan Mehta / 08.03.2026
Can Manchester City F.C. achieve the elusive quadruple?
As Manchester City F.C. continues its pursuit of a historic quadruple, the question arises: can they become the first English team to achieve this remarkable feat? Currently, they are competing against Arsenal, who are leading the Premier League table by seven points, although they have played one more game than City.
No English club has ever won all four major trophies in a single season, with history indicating that such an accomplishment is nearly impossible. Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has acknowledged the difficulty of this challenge, stating, “It is almost impossible to achieve everything — that is the truth.”
Last season, Manchester City secured the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles, showcasing their dominance in English and European football. However, they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals by Southampton, highlighting the challenges they face in their quest for the quadruple.
Arsenal’s current form has been impressive, with their last victory at the Etihad Stadium dating back to 2015. This adds pressure on Manchester City as they aim to close the gap in the Premier League standings. The competition is fierce, with other teams like Chelsea and Manchester United also vying for top honors.
Guardiola’s recent two-match suspension due to accumulating six yellow cards this season adds another layer of complexity to City’s campaign. However, his suspension does not affect the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Arsenal, allowing him to remain involved in that crucial match.
Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, commented on the pressures of competing at this level, saying, “We love being in this situation. It’s incredibly tough — we play pretty much all the time.” This sentiment reflects the challenges faced by top clubs as they navigate multiple competitions.
As the season progresses, the focus remains on whether Manchester City can overcome the odds and achieve what no English team has done before. With key matches ahead, including the FA Cup quarter-final and Premier League fixtures, the outcome remains uncertain.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the impact of Guardiola’s absence on the team’s performance in upcoming matches. The stakes are high as Manchester City aims to solidify its place in football history.
