Pervis Estupiñán Scores in Milan Derby Victory
Pervis Estupiñán scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for AC Milan against Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on March 8, 2026. This victory marked AC Milan’s second win in the Milan derby of the season.
Estupiñán’s decisive goal came in the 35th minute, a moment he described as the most important of his career. “Yes, it’s the most important goal of my career. We worked hard this week, and this is the result,” Estupiñán stated after the match.
With this win, AC Milan moved to within seven points of Inter in the Serie A standings, a significant development as they aim to close the gap. The match saw Milan achieve an expected goals (xG) total of 0.77, while Inter’s xG was higher at 1.24, reflecting a competitive encounter.
Estupiñán also made history by becoming the first Ecuadorian player to score in a Milan derby. This victory continues Milan’s strong performance against their rivals, as they have not lost to Inter in their last seven derby matches across all competitions.
Milan has reached 60 points after their first 28 games of the league season for the fourth time, a testament to their consistent performance. The last time Milan won both derbies in a season was in the 2010-11 campaign.
The team’s next challenge will be against Lazio, as they look to maintain their momentum in the league. Milan’s unbeaten run against Inter in official matches has not been this long since November 2002 and April 2005, highlighting their dominance in recent encounters.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential injuries or lineup changes for the upcoming match against Lazio. However, the focus remains on the impressive performance by Estupiñán and his teammates in the derby.
