Sanju Samson’s Journey

“Feels like a dream, actually. Very, very happy, very grateful,” expressed Sanju Samson after his remarkable performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he emerged as the Player of the Tournament. Born on November 11, 1994, in Pulluvila, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Samson has quickly become a prominent figure in Indian cricket, showcasing his talent on the international stage.

Samson’s cricketing journey began at a young age in Delhi before he moved to his home state of Kerala. His early exposure to the sport laid the foundation for what would become a successful career. Despite facing challenges, including not being part of India’s first eleven at the start of the tournament, his perseverance paid off as he scored an impressive 321 runs in just five innings during the World Cup.

In the tournament, Samson boasted an impressive average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.38, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure. His performance included three consecutive fifties in the knockout stages, a feat that not only contributed to his team’s success but also broke Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup edition.

Reflecting on his journey, Samson remarked, “After the NZ series, I was broken; my dreams were completely shattered.” This statement underscores the emotional rollercoaster he has experienced throughout his career. However, with the support of his family, including his father, Samson Vishwanath, a former Delhi Police constable and retired footballer, and his mother, Lijy Vishwanath, who is a homemaker, he has found the strength to overcome obstacles.

Samson’s elder brother, Saly Samson, also a cricketer, has played a supportive role in his life. Saly has scored 38 runs in 6 List-A matches, and their family’s dedication to cricket has undoubtedly influenced Sanju’s career path. The close-knit family environment has provided him with the encouragement needed to excel in a competitive sport.

As he continues to develop his skills and make a name for himself, the cricketing world eagerly anticipates what lies ahead for Sanju Samson. His recent achievements have positioned him as a key player in the Indian cricket team, and fans are hopeful for his continued success.

In a heartfelt tribute, Samson stated, “A great salute to your passion, dedication and love for this game BHAIJAAAN,” reflecting his respect for the sport and those who have supported him along the way. With his talent and determination, Sanju Samson is poised to leave a lasting impact on cricket for years to come.
