Sarfaraz Ahmed Announces Retirement from Cricket

Sarfaraz Ahmed announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on March 15, 2026, marking the end of a distinguished career that spanned over a decade. During his time with the Pakistan national team, he played 54 Tests, 117 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 61 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), amassing a total of 6,164 runs across all formats.
In his career, Sarfaraz scored six centuries and 35 half-centuries, showcasing his ability as a reliable batsman. He captained Pakistan in 100 international matches, leading the team to significant victories, including the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy against India and the ICC U-19 World Cup title in 2006.
As a wicketkeeper, he held 315 catches and made 56 stumpings, contributing to his team’s defensive strength. Reflecting on his career, Sarfaraz stated, “Captaining Pakistan across all formats was a dream come true,” and added, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to represent Pakistan.”
He emphasized his commitment to playing fearless cricket and building a united team, saying, “I always tried to play fearless cricket and build a united team.” His leadership and performance have left a lasting impact on Pakistani cricket.
Sarfaraz Ahmed is notably the only Pakistani captain to win two major ICC tournament finals against India, a feat that has solidified his legacy in the sport. His contributions to cricket in Pakistan will be remembered by fans and players alike.
Following his retirement, Sarfaraz is expected to be appointed as head coach of the national Test team, a role that could see him continue to influence the game from the sidelines. Details remain unconfirmed.
From leading the U-19 team to a world title in 2006 to lifting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, Sarfaraz reflected, “Every moment in Pakistan colors has been special.” His journey in cricket has been marked by significant achievements and memorable moments.
