A hailstorm struck Assam’s Boko on March 16, 2026, causing widespread devastation across more than 30 villages. The storm resulted in significant damage to homes, electric poles, and small businesses, leaving many residents in distress.

In Bhehua village, three houses belonging to Niranjan Boro were completely flattened by the storm. Additionally, essential supply points, including a fair price shop owned by Kshirod Choudhury, suffered damage, further complicating the situation for local residents.

Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported due to the storm in Assam. However, the extent of the damage has not yet been officially assessed, leaving many in uncertainty about the full impact of the storm.

Meanwhile, hailstorms were also reported in Tarn Taran, where the weather event affected wheat crops that were almost ready for harvesting. Farmers expressed concerns about the potential losses, as they were still recovering from previous floods.

In Budgam district, the hailstorm damaged apple blossoms and standing crops, raising alarms among farmers. The storm, although brief, was strong enough to knock down many blossoms from apple trees, which are crucial for the upcoming harvest.

Farmers in Budgam have requested an immediate assessment of the damage to their orchards and fields. One orchard owner noted, “This is a very sensitive stage for the crop, and we are worried the production may decline if the damage is significant.”

Satnam Singh Manochahal, a local farmer, highlighted the ongoing struggles, stating, “Farmers are yet to be compensated for the losses caused during the floods, and now the hailstorm has further worsened their situation.”

Another farmer echoed this sentiment, saying, “We request the authorities to send teams to inspect the orchards and fields so that the losses can be assessed properly.” The community is anxiously awaiting assistance and clarity on the situation.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact impact on the apple harvest in Budgam, as farmers fear that the hailstorm could lead to reduced yields and financial losses. Observers are closely monitoring the situation as authorities in Assam prepare to release an official assessment of the damage caused by the hailstorm.
