Weather Ghaziabad: Pre-Monsoon Storm Approaches
A powerful pre-monsoon storm is sweeping across northern India, significantly impacting Ghaziabad. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, as the storm approaches the region.
An orange alert has been declared for Ghaziabad, indicating expected moderate rain, gusty winds, and lightning. Gusty winds are anticipated to reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour across the Delhi and NCR region, prompting local authorities to advise residents to stay indoors.
The maximum temperature in Ghaziabad is expected to remain around 31 to 33 degrees Celsius by Monday, with the current temperature recorded at 22 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for the neighbouring Noida region, highlighting the widespread impact of the storm.
As the storm progresses, strong winds with speeds of 20 to 30 km/h are expected during the evenings and nights. Conditions may worsen on March 19 and 20, with winds potentially reaching up to 50 km/h. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid open spaces, and keep away from windows during lightning activity.
Mahesh Palawat, a meteorologist, noted, “This is expected to be the season’s first pre-monsoon rain, which has arrived about 10 days earlier than usual.” This early arrival of the pre-monsoon rain is significant, as it may affect agricultural practices and local weather patterns.
The unsettled weather is not limited to Ghaziabad; western Himalayan regions are also experiencing snowfall at higher altitudes, indicating a broader pattern of atmospheric instability across northern India.
As the storm continues to develop, local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and providing updates to the public. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels as conditions evolve.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the storm’s impact, but preparations are underway to ensure public safety during this weather event.
