The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are facing significant challenges ahead of the IPL 2026 season, as player Harshit Rana has been ruled out following knee surgery. This development adds to the team’s injury woes and raises concerns about their performance in the upcoming season.

In response to Rana’s absence, KKR is currently adopting a wait-and-watch approach for finding a suitable replacement. Meanwhile, Saurabh Dubey has been signed as a replacement for Akash Deep, who is undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Dubey, who was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in 2022, went unsold at the mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi last December. His base price was set at 30 lakh, but KKR acquired Akash Deep for Rs. 1 crore during the same auction.

In the previous season, IPL 2025, KKR struggled, finishing eighth in the standings with only 12 points from 14 matches, winning 5 and losing 7, resulting in a net run rate of -0.305. The team’s performance has raised questions about their strategy and player management going into the new season.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact nature of Akash Deep’s injury, and no suitable Indian replacement for Harshit Rana has been confirmed yet. The uncertainty surrounding these key players could significantly impact KKR’s chances in IPL 2026.

As the team navigates these challenges, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how KKR adapts and responds to the evolving situation.
