Pakistani Politician Nabil Gabol Criticizes Film Portrayal
Nabil Gabol, a veteran Pakistani politician and tribal chief from Lyari, Karachi, has recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the portrayal of his character in the film Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Gabol, who currently serves as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), stated that the character Jameel Jamali is loosely inspired by him.
In a statement, Gabol emphasized, “It’s not me. Don’t believe whatever is depicted in the film. It’s a crooked attempt by Indian filmmakers to deliberately distort and malign my character. But that’s not me.” His remarks highlight his concern that viewers might mistake the fictional portrayal for reality, potentially leading them to see him as an Indian spy.
At 63 years old, Gabol has had a long political career, having served multiple terms in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2015 and again from 2024 to the present. He also held the position of Minister of State for Ports and Shipping from 2008 to 2011 and was the youngest Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly from 1993 to 1996.
Gabol’s concerns come in light of the film’s release, which has sparked discussions about the representation of political figures in cinema. He acknowledged that the character was inspired by his persona during the release of Dhurandhar Part 1, but he now feels that the latest portrayal is misleading.
Furthermore, Gabol has faced online trolling for his differing views on the character’s portrayal in the sequel compared to the first part. His public statements reflect a broader concern among politicians regarding how they are depicted in media and the potential impact on their public image.
As the debate continues, Gabol’s criticism of the film serves as a reminder of the fine line between artistic expression and the responsibility of filmmakers to accurately represent real-life figures.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential legal actions or further responses from the filmmakers involved in Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
