TTD Donations and Controversies

A Chennai-based firm, Subbarow Apparels, has made a significant donation of Rs 1 crore to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Sri Balaji Arogya Varaprasadini scheme. This contribution is aimed at enhancing medical facilities and acquiring advanced equipment for underprivileged patients at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS).

The donation cheque was formally handed over to TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary, highlighting TTD’s ongoing commitment to providing top-quality medical services.

However, the donation has also brought to light serious controversies surrounding TTD leadership. Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, a member of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has publicly criticized B.R. Naidu, the TTD Chairman, accusing him of damaging the organization’s reputation. Reddy has demanded Naidu’s immediate removal, citing allegations of misusing VIP darshan privileges for political gain.

Reddy’s remarks included strong language, stating, “B.R. Naidu must be immediately removed for his ‘indecent and disgraceful actions.'” He further accused former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of falsely claiming credit for projects while sidelining officials who contributed to their success.

The controversy surrounding B.R. Naidu’s conduct raises questions about the governance of TTD, which has extended its role beyond spiritual services to support education, healthcare, and social welfare programs.

As TTD continues to navigate these challenges, the implications of the donation and the surrounding controversies may affect its operations and public perception. The FSSAI technology lab, initiated during the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government, is also under scrutiny as part of the broader discussion on TTD’s leadership.
