Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC are set to clash in a highly anticipated match in the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 season. This encounter, taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl, marks the first-ever top-flight meeting between the two local rivals. Both teams enter the match with five points each, making this game crucial for their respective standings in the league.
Currently, Aizawl FC is positioned fifth in the league table, having recently suffered a 0-2 defeat against Diamond Harbour FC. The loss has raised concerns about the team’s performance, prompting head coach R. Lalruatfela to reflect on the lack of experience among his defenders. “In that game, what I reflect on is the lack of experience of my defender. Not only because of the mistakes of the players, but also because of the calls I made. So those kinds of mistakes cannot happen, especially at this top level,” he stated.
On the other side, Chanmari FC is also looking to bounce back after a 1-2 loss to Shillong Lajong FC. Coach Victor Lalbiakmawia will be aiming to secure a vital three points against their local rivals. The match is not only significant for the points but also for the pride of the teams involved. “Right now, I don’t think about the derby at all. I’m looking only for the three points. This is a very good opportunity to get the three points,” said Lalruatfela, emphasizing the importance of the match.
Both teams have struggled in recent matches, and their head coaches are prioritizing results over style of play. Lalruatfela remarked, “For me, when we are in senior football, the result is the most important thing. Regardless of how we play, the style of play, at the end of the day, winning is the most important thing.” This sentiment reflects the pressure both teams face as they seek to improve their standings in the league.
As the match approaches, players from both teams are expressing optimism about their performance. Aizawl FC’s Eric Rempuia commented on the team’s chemistry, stating, “About our chemistry, we are much better day by day off the field and on the field.” This improvement could be crucial in determining the outcome of the match.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:30 IST, and fans are eagerly anticipating the showdown between these two local rivals. With both teams desperate for points, the atmosphere at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is expected to be electric. Observers are keen to see how the teams will respond to the pressure and whether they can turn their recent misfortunes into a positive result.
As the teams prepare for this important fixture, the stakes are high for both Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC. With their current standings and recent performances, this match could be a turning point in the season for either side. The outcome will not only affect their league positions but also the morale of the players and fans alike.
