TTD Controversy: Allegations and Community Tensions
The ongoing TTD controversy has significant implications, particularly surrounding the leadership of Chairman BR Naidu, who is facing serious allegations of misconduct. These accusations have raised concerns about the sanctity of the Tirumala temple, a revered site for millions of devotees.
Chandrababu Naidu, a prominent political figure, has publicly supported BR Naidu despite the mounting allegations, including claims that he has tarnished the temple’s reputation. Ushasri Charan, an activist, has brought attention to a series of sacrileges that occurred during BR Naidu’s tenure, which have further fueled public outrage.
In a tragic incident, a stampede in Tirupati resulted in fatalities, marking the first such occurrence in TTD’s history. This event has intensified scrutiny on the management of the temple and its leadership.
Additionally, a Brahmin woman has alleged sexual harassment by BR Naidu, a claim that surfaced ahead of the 2024 elections, adding another layer of complexity to the situation. Nagarjuna Yadav, a community leader, has condemned what he describes as a conspiracy to remove hereditary Sannidhi Gollas from TTD, a group with historical ties to the temple’s administration.
Venkateswarlu Yadav, a member of the Sannidhi Golla community, was recently relieved of his duties, prompting accusations from Nagarjuna Yadav that Chandrababu Naidu harbors deep-seated animosity toward the Yadav community. This is not the first time such allegations have surfaced; attempts to marginalize the Sannidhi Gollas were made during Naidu’s previous term in 2016.
Nagarjuna Yadav has warned that the YSRCP will not allow the sidelining of the Yadav community from TTD, indicating potential political ramifications as tensions rise. Furthermore, the current coalition government has revoked land previously granted for a Yadav Bhavan in Visakhapatnam, exacerbating feelings of disenfranchisement among the community.
Ushasri Charan has called for immediate action, stating, “If Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan truly care about Tirumala’s purity and devotees’ sentiments, they must immediately secure BR Naidu’s resignation.” This statement underscores the urgency felt by many regarding the leadership crisis at TTD.
As the situation develops, details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the allegations and the potential impact on the upcoming elections. The controversy surrounding TTD continues to evolve, with community leaders and activists closely monitoring the situation.
